Welcome to the first issue of The Navajo Way, the Navajo Evangelical Lutheran Mission's electronic newsletter!
We will feature activities of the Mission, House of Prayer, School, Health Clinic, Thrift Shop and other outreach events! |
Dear Friends: |
|
In these times of religious turbulence and spiritual terrorism, we would like to invite you and those of your friends and associates of like minds, to a day of theological reflection on the nature of Christian Mission and Witness.
How can we preserve our Christian identity and integrity in a pluralistic and multicultural environment? |
Is it possible to be a Christian while both accepting and affirming the religious rights and dignity of other people's religions?
These are some of the issues that we will be reflecting upon. We will also be listening to music, singing, eating, and having fun. So, please join us and help us create a beautiful “Spirit” in the desert. |
|
"Simply being with one another and telling our deep stories is a profound way of doing mission."
"In mission we are in a dance, and the powerless have the lead."

The Mission's Most Critical Need:New Maintenance Shed -
Estimated Cost = $103,500
- Large pre-fabricated metal structure - $65,000
- Cement slab - $15,000
- Electric hookup/AC and heat - $15,000
- Plumbing - $3,000
- Partition wood, drywall (in certain rooms) and paint - $3,000
- Windows/doors - $2,500
The present maintenance shed was the first building to be constructed on Mission grounds.
Over the years it has been modified, and areas added to it, but to date, it does not have water, heat or air conditioning. It is extremely cold in the winter for the crew to work, and in summer, with nothing but a metal roof overhead, it gets boiling hot.
It is also necessary for storage and protection for our school buses, as currently we have no structure to protect the vehicles from the sun and the winter ice.
To help with this project:You may apply to volunteer your time at the Mission by clicking on the links below.
If you are interested in learning more about volunteering at the Mission. You may request a Volunteer Packet by contacting the Community Services Manager, or by returning a completed application .
Financial gifts are always welcome to help cover the ongoing costs of operating the Mission and the school.
As always, your gifts are tax deductible. Contact us at (928) 659-4201 or by email attention: Executive Director Executive.Director@NELM.org.

We offer educational opportunitites to children grades K-6th and are blessed by many Lutherans and others who work together to provide elementary education along with the opportunity to know Christ! You can sponsor an individual student or an entire class at the Mission School!
Option 1:
Individual Student Sponsorship - $850.00 for August - May school year.
Option 2:
Class Sponsorship - $3,000.00 for August - May school year.
How will your sponsorship gift be used:
Your gift will help us to pay a portion of their school tuition, utilities, food, bus transportation, medical needs, school supplies, field trips and school events. Your gift will also support the hiring of qualified teachers for the school.
How will the student benefit?
Growing up in a world where there is never enough to cover basic necessities, a Navajo child can become lonely, depressed and hungry. Through the sponsoship program, we are working together to boost self-esteem, give hope, and provide good quality education.
What will sponsors receive?
Along with the knowing you are making a huge difference in a child's life, the sponsorship packet included:
- A student or class picture
- Student or class personalized letter
- Grade listing
- Date of Birth
- Clothing size chart
- Occasional letters and gifts
